Three different PSU Lifters in 4 Years make the IPF Jr. Worlds

The International Powerlifting Federation is the largest Powerlifting Federation in the World. With over 50 countries, it's truly the deepest Powerlifting Organization in history. With such competitiveness, only 11 male lifters from each country are allowed to compete in this contest.

Starting in 1998 Penn State Powerlifting got itself back on the map in Collegiate Powerlifting. First, Steve Mann in the 220 pound class qualified and traveled to the IPF Jr. Worlds in Gyor, Hungary. Taking away a lot World Class experience, with a 6th place finish and he started what would be a run of 3 IPF World Contests in 4 years.

In 2000, Angelo Poulich in just his second year of competing went to the Collegiate Nationals and went from fourth in '99 to first in '00 and shocked the collegiate lifting community with his impressive benching skills. He later that fall travel to Taiwan and took fourth in the IPF Jr. Worlds 198 pound division.

In 2001, Erik Steiner, a 2000 Graduate from Penn State. Set his sights on the Junior National title and came up just 5 pounds short of winning the 242 pound class, which meant he was an alternate for the team. Erik later got a second chance when he moved onto the team from the alternate list. He took full advantage of this opportunity. This IPF contest was in the eastern blocks of Bulgaria. Erik lifted above even his own expectations and placed third in the 242 pound class. The highest finish of the US Team in year 2001.

Angelo Poulich gets a spot on the IPF Jr. World Team

Angelo won the 2000 Collegiate Nationals in Colorado Springs, Colorado in the Spring of 2000. Now a graduate of Penn State University he will be traveling to Taiwan in September to lift against the best Junior lifters the world has to offer. Angelo in only his second year of competing defeated a very deep class. He broke the American Bench record by over 15 pounds, benching 418 and only weighing 189.

Good Luck to Angelo!!!!

PENN STATE PLACES 2ND AT 2000 COLLEGIATE NATIONALS!!!

Angelo Poulich is Golden in the 198

Angelo Poulich came away with gold medal as he defeated all 22 other lifters in his class. He benched an American/Collegiate National Record 418 lbs. at 189 lb body weight. All but one lifter on Penn States 8 person team placed in the top 5. Marlana Hamfeldt placed 2nd at the women's 97lb class. Sarah Barr  at 148, placed 5th place in the most competitive women's class. Andy Halko placed 6th in one of the deepest 165 lb class in the last 5 years. Seth Abrams hung strong at 181 placing 4th, he easily benched 396 lbs, which was the highest in his weight class. Gleb Epelbaum placed 7th in the 198. There was some confusion with the weight class separated on two platforms, his third attempt deadlift, that came above the knees would have given him a third place finish, but ended up pushing him all the way to 7th. Erik Steiner with a pre-meet separated clavicle injury stepped up and placed third, missing second place on a body weight loss. All and all the Penn State Powerlifting team really turned some heads defeating the full Airforce contingent for the second place.
