2011 USA Powerlifting Collegiate National Championships - Scranton, Pennsylvania
Dear USAPL Collegiate Lifters
Thank you for accepting our bid for the 2011
USA Powerlifting Collegiate National Powerlifting
Championships, to be hosted in Scranton,
Pennsylvania.
In the last three years I have hosted multiple
100+ lifting events in the State of Pennsylvania,
including the USA Powerlifting American Open
National Championships. At each event we
have utilized current technology, including
automated barload scoring application created
by Joe Marksteiner. We have included closed
circuit TV back stage, along with projections
of the scoring program. We will equip the
warm-up area and competition area with ER
racks as well as other high quality equipment.
Our equipment, facilities, and staffing will
be top notch. We will have a dedicated event
web site. It will be on-line for 12 months
prior to the event. We will also advertise
via Powerlifting USA, PurePowerlifting Podcasts.
I am planning, to keep the National Championship
a one platform event, unless lifting enrollment
would drive us beyond 8 PM. I would then
move portions of the event to a dual platform
setup. Going two platforms, has been seen
in the past as a negative, but I also believe
you need to weigh a dual platform approach,
against 12+ hours of lifting per day. Based
on the 2007 competitor list, it would not
warrant a two platform approach though.
Scranton is an ex-coal mining town that now
homes to The University of Scranton and Lackawanna
College. There are many things to do in a
short walking distance, making Scranton a
great location for a collegiate event.
Our event hotel is the Hilton in downtown
Scranton, the date of the event with be April
7-9th, 2011. The hotel offers free shuttle
service from the Scranton Wilkes Barre Airport
(AVP). You will not need a car, there are
restaurants, stores, a mall, a movie theatre
and entertainment, all with-in walking distance
from the hotel.
I plan to have applications out as early
as February 2010.
Thanks,
Steve Mann
